Taking GREAT  Field Trips!

It's time to get things going here! :-)

Hi, rockhounds!

I've been away from the website for awhile, and I'd like to apologize for my neglect. It's been a tumultuous and challenging year for me, but there have been many bright spots along the way.

After a disappointing show at Quartzsite in January, I bucked up and went out to the Cady Mountains east of Barstow for a few days of really great rockhounding. The Cady's have been good to me this year, and I've enjoyed several trips with quite a few rockhounds.

March was also notable for several sterling rock & gem shows, and the acquisition of my new working and show partners, Candace and Garrick.

Garrick found me on Facebook, and rode shotgun with me to our Del Puerto Canyon field trip, promoted through our Facebook Group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/rockhoundfieldtripfanatic/. It was new territory for many attendees, and was co-lead by RFTF! members Mike Zamudio and David Vorous. Much nice rock was collected!

We now operate as Ranchos Lapidary, in the Madera Ranchos north of Fresno. We're doing our best to turn their garage and yard into a real rock shop/lapidary workshop. We're currently offering an open house at least one Saturday a month, with the opportunity to check out our huge selection of lapidary slabs and rough. Attendees can also use our equipment to get feel for lapidary basics, and everyone's welcome to hang out and talk rocks.

You'll find our open dates in the Calendar section of this website. We also offer basic lapidary instruction by appointment. If you're able to make it out to the Fresno area, and are interested in learning the basics of cabochon cutting and other lapidary skills, call me at (559) 250-5057, 10am to 7pm.

April was a great month, with the Mariposa show and the Central California Odyssey. After a few days off, we headed out to the Mojave Desert for the RFTF! Spring Cady's Odyssey and the Lancaster show. A busy month, indeed!

The real challenges began at the end of the spring, with the closing of our licensed home childcare business. Me & my sweetheart Laura are now working to make our living through our lapidary, jewelry and rockhounding pursuits. Our health has been an ongoing issue, but we're boldly soldiering onward. :)

We've been working hard at building our Facebook Group, and the results really show. We're now up to 438 members, with an ever expanding number of field trips being planned through the Group. If you use Facebook, I hope that you'll join us there.

We've recently added the RFTF! Rockhound Trading Post (https://www.facebook.com/groups/RFTFRockhoundTradingPost/) dediacted to helping our members trade and sell their rock related wares. Posting is restricted to our Group members, but anyone can see and buy from the posts. It's barely started, so get in on the ground floor!

I've hardly started to talk about the year, but it's time to get this posted, and get ready for the Hesperia show this weekend, and the Thanksgiving Cady Mountains Odyssey next week. You'll find both events on our Calendar.

More updates coming shortly!
