Welcome to the new, and hopefully permanent home of

Rockhound Field Trip Fanatics!

Me & Laura, my beauty!

2016 was a rough year, full of disruption, contention and conflict. For RFTF!, the challenges seemed neverending, as our old website providors customer service slowly deteriorated, ending with the total loss of our website data in June. For a short time, it looked as though that data was lost forever, along with my sanity. Happily, faithful RFTF! Member Connie Stillenger came to my rescue.

Through the magic of the Internet Wayback Machine, Connie found that most of our public facing data had been safely archived for prosperity. Our Blogposts, photos and other site data are safely tucked away in their evergrowing memory store, awaiting restoration to this new site. Hooray! :D

Another happy occurance was the decision to archive our members email addresses. We'll be sending out a mass email to all of the old members in the next few weeks, inviting them to come aboard this brand new website. I hope that everyone returns!

The new website is different from the old, and in some ways, better. The old Photostream is gone, but the new Photo Albums feature may prove to be even better. I've found the photo uploads to be quick AND reliable, without the difficulties many members experienced with the old uploader.

Equally easy to use, the new Forums feature will assist members in quick & convenient communication. The rules will be the same; keep all public communications kind, courteous and clean. The forums will be moderated, and I'm looking for several very patient members to help with that task. If you're willing to take it on, you'll have a special place in my heart, and earn special perks. Moderation hath its privilages!

Equally as special will be the perks for the brave few who decide to volunteer to be Admins. They'll share the duties that I used to keep for myself, and didn't always do very well. Their work will assure that, whatever might happen, Rockhound Field Trip Fanatics! will keep on serving the rockhound, lapidary & geo-enthusiast community as well as we possibly can.

In the months since the website vanished, we've made a comfortable place for a share of our membership on Facebook. The Rockhound Field Trip Fanatics! Facebook Group will continue to be a go-to place for many members. Rest assured Facebook users, you'll find it easy to "share" your posts, photos and Events to the RFTF! Group, your Page or your Facebook Newsfeed.

Finally, be sure and use the new Mobile website on your smartphone. It's waaaaaaay better than the original!

Whether you decide to be a Member, Moderator or Admin, it's good to have RFTF! back up to full speed. Have at it, rockhounds!

Best regards,

Kris Rowe
